Photo Manipulation & Restoration

This Alley had a time gone by feel to it when I took the picture. When I processed it, I wanted to enhance this feeling. In order to do that, I gave the image a vintage look that is dusty and muted in tone.

This photo was taken in Dahlonega, Georgia, which is located in the north Georgia mountains. The town has an old timey charm to it that I wanted to enhance with my processing.

Although I think the original image is quite beautiful, I wanted to see what it would look like in black and white.

In this image, I enhanced the overall color and added some clouds to the empty blue sky.

I really love this image of Chris. His prom look was chosen by him and he was going for a vintage gangster look. I felt the monochrome pallet enhanced the vintage feel and I cropped the image to bring the focus onto him.

This was part of a series of images taken in the worst possible light, but I really like the expression on his face so I had to try to save it. I color corrected the blue out of the image in order to bring back a more natural skin tone and I put some clouds into the empty blue sky to add interest.

This image was taken by the subject's husband and she wanted me to color correct it and soften it up a bit. I chose to blur out the background in order to bring the focus of the image back onto her face. After that, I worked with filters to enhance her skin and soften the colors.

This picture was the only image that the older girl had of herself and her baby sister. The photograph was getting old and worn and she really wanted to save it. I scanned the picture and then corrected the tattered edges as well as minimized the amount of creases the photo had collected with age.

I took this picture to put in a catalog I was creating for Colomer USA. Unfortunately, the black sports car was right out in front and they didn't really want that in the photo. I edited out the car and rebuilt the front stairs of the building. The photo was cropped in such a manner that the truck was not visible in the completed catalog.

I really enjoy taking photographs that have a vintage quality about them. If I think the photo looks to modern, I like to enhance the photo to make it seem more vintage. In this photo, I used filters to tone the colors down and give it a worn feel. I also edited the cartoon stickers, that were on the bike frame, out of the photograph to enhance the vintage feel.

This was part of a series of photographs that were taken of this couple's wedding. They were not entirely happy with the way the photos turned out so the bride enlisted my help to save a few of them. I know this couple personally and I loved the expressions on their faces, so I had to save this one. I think black and white processing can save a terrible photo almost every time. Black and white has the ability to decrease the look of clutter and bring a photo together. In this photo, I edited out several of the brochures on the back wall that were horribly inappropriate for a wedding photo and then I blurred the entire area to decrease it's visual impact. I then turned the entire image monochrome and cropped it to bring the focus back onto the couple.

This image was also from the same wedding and the exposure was just terrible, not to mention the table and chairs that no one bothered to move out of the way! I did my best to correct the exposure and bring back a more natural skin tone. I left this one in color because of the landscaping in the background. I then edited out the chair and rebuilt the wall and railing. Finally, I cropped the image to provide a better composition and bring focus onto the couple.

This image was taken by another photographer. After the bride purchased her photos, she noticed some little things about them that she wanted to correct if possible. On this photo, I filled in the gap in the bride's bangs, straightened her necklace, and trimmed the stem on the groom's lapel flower.

The bride really loved this photo but she did not love the little blue car in the background! I deleted the car from the image and rebuilt the background. I also trimmed the stem on the groom's lapel flower.

In this photo, it was the groom's other ring that seemed to draw attention. The bride ask me if I could take it off his hand, so I did just that.

The bride and groom wanted to have this honeymoon photo turned into a canvas but their camera had the date stamp feature turned on and they did not want the large orange date to be part of the canvas. I edited out the orange date and time, rebuilt the foliage in that area, and brightened up the image around the couple to draw the focus back onto them.

Some of Jenna's family was unable to attend her graduation ceremony and I was hired to capture this special occasion. We did not have as much time as I would have liked to take photographs so I chose to take large images that I could go back into later and modify in order to create the best image possible for her family. This image was bland at best and the lighting was enhancing the dark circles under her eyes. I decided this image would make a great black and white portrait. I edited and cropped the photo to bring the focus directly onto Jenna and her beautiful eyes. This particular photo was a family favorite and was used on the invitations to her graduation party.

This image showcases how bad lighting can be overcome with careful editing and how cropping can bring the focus back onto the subject.

These two photos were taken from the edited photo above. These photos are a great example of why I often choose to take the largest photos possible so that I can go back into them at a later time and find that perfect shot through cropping.
